My time at the BMI Alexandra and with Mr Gnanalingham was superb. His care and attention from himself and his staff could not have been better. Indeed, his desire to have his chosen team around him for the op was also something I found comforting. Surgery is daunting but I truly felt I couldn't have been in safer hands - from the porters to the surgeon, all were phenomenal

In 2017 I had an accident on a building site which resulted in some lower back pain. I was 68 and reasonably fit, I could run an easy 5 miles. As the months progressed the back pain and spasms in my right leg became worse, until by the end of a working day I was limping and in severe pain. I was recommended to seek help by an associate from Mr Gnanalingham. I had been seeking help at the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital, it took 3 months for appointments with a physio and a subsequent 3 months for a scan only to be told “we are all getting older and there is not much we can do for your back, try painkillers.” I replied would that be on top of the 3 ibuprofen tablets I am already taking. Contacting Vaani, Mr Gnanalingham’s PA on the Tuesday I had an appointment with Mr Gnanalingham on the Friday. During the consultation, Mr G went over the MR scan from Southport and I saw quite clearly where I had damaged the vertebrae between 3 and 4, the actual track of the nerves through the vertebrae was clearly misshapen. A week later I was in the Alexandra for the procedure, a quick anaesthetic in the back of the hand, and I was semi-conscious during the procedure. I believe I received 3 injections of steroids. I limped into hospital for the injection and I walked out of hospital in the afternoon with no pain whatsoever. Some 5 months later I am back running, I can go on the exercise bike for an hour when I feel like it, and my fitness is returning. In early summer I intend to ride to Windermere some 64 miles. The procedure was explained to me as a good alternative to an operation, (in my case). You could not meet two more pleasant professionals than Mr Gnanalingham and his PA Vaani Navaratnam.

My recovery (just 9 weeks later!) has been faultless and I have no doubt this is down to the incredible work of Mr Gnanalingham and his team as well as the exceptional care I got from the Physio team at BMI Alexandra Hospital.

I found Mr Gnanalingham very personable and easy to talk to. He took the time to answer all of my questions and I felt very comfortable with his manner. He obviously had a great depth of knowledge in his specialist field but at the same time was able to explain the diagnosis in easy to understand terms and came across as a very caring individual. I am happy to recommend Mr Gnanalingham based on my experiences
